Yi Xing, an orphaned young man, seeks to challenge the Tiangong, a supercomputer controlling his city. Fueled by hatred for Tiangong’s role in his parents’ deaths and seeing the decline in the city's maintenance, Yi hopes to usurp the Tiangong's power over the city by beating it in a game. Yi challenges the Tiangong to a game of weiqi/go, of which Yi is a master. During the game, the Tiangong claims that all things are predetermined and that it has already predicted all future actions. The Tiangong creates images and constructs to illustrate its philosophical points. During the game, Yi Xing sees that their game has direct impacts on the city around them...
