Megumi finds Shinomori at the dojo looking for Kenshin. He threaten to kill her for not revealing his status when Saito appears, informing him about Shishio; Shinomori leaves, intent on waiting for his return. He is met by Shishio's envoys, who attempt to persuade him to meet their master; Shinomori refuses and kills them for defiling his comrades' graves. He is then confronted by Okubo's killer Seta Sōjirō, who invites him to Kyoto. While travelling, Kenshin witnesses a skirmish between a girl, Makimachi Misao, and Yakuza bandits who have stolen a nearby town's money, whom she defeats and robs...
