Taiki begins vigorously practicing for the qualifiers. When Chinatsu mentions her qualifiers and Taiki's coinciding on the same day, Taiki wonders if she is looking forward to his match. They later cross paths while walking home and they head to a shrine and pray on reaching the nationals. The next day after their team's qualifiers, Chinatsu and her friend Nagisa Funami overhear their rivals comment on Chinatsu's lackluster performance. Taiki later notices the team's melancholic behavior and eavesdrops on Nagisa's frustration with the situation...
